Clinical Excellence Care

Your health is our priority

Clinical excellence & transparent care is at the core of what we do at Pantai Hospital Ayer Keroh (PHAK). Our Value-Driven Outcomes (VDO) initiatives aim to enhance clinical outcomes and patient experience, while rationalizing the cost it takes to deliver that care.

The healthcare professionals at PHAK are aligned to international standards for quality & functional outcomes. This allows us to drive potential interventions and improve treatment value for our patients. By utilizing the power of data, PHAK is able to provide accountability and transparency so that patients can be confident that they are receiving excellent value-for-money services.

PHAK Clinical Outcomes Journey

2019
Started our Value-Driven Outcome journey for 4 procedures: ACL Reconstruction, Total Knee Replacement, Percutaneous Coronary Intervention and Colonoscopy.
2020
Started clinical improvement projects to improve quality of bowel preparation and caecal intubation rate (CIR).
2021
Improvements in quality of bowel preparation and CIR resulted in sustained increase in adenoma detection rate for patients 50 years and above.
2022
Added 2 more procedures under the VDO initiatives: Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy and Hysterectomy.
2023
Implemented clinical improvement projects focused on pre-PCI dual antiplatelet administration and pre-TKR rehabilitation.
Colonoscopy Outcomes
100% patients achieved optimal care index with all parameters above international benchmarks.
In 2021 & 2022, 55% of our elective colonoscopy patients are 50 years old and above. 45% of these patients had at least one adenoma detected and 2% had adenocarcinoma, above international benchmarks. Early detection saves lives.
*Value Driven Outcomes data from 2021 - 2022.
*These parameters are globally accepted internationally in reference to evidence-based medicine & European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (“ESGE”) criteria to ensure quality of procedure and patient health’s status.
Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) Outcomes
98% optimal care index with all parameters above international benchmarks.
PHAK statistic from 2021 – 2022 reflects high risk and complex cases (↑ CTO, LMS and Bifurcation) with 98% procedure success (above NCVD reference).
*Value Driven Outcomes data from 2021-2022.
*These parameters are in reference to National Heart Association Malaysia – Annual Report of NCVD-PCI Registry 2019 - 2020 criteria to ensure quality of procedure and patient health’s status.
Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) Reconstruction Outcomes
100% optimal care index with all parameters above international benchmarks.
  1. Annals of Medicine and Surgery: Analysis of postoperative complications following elective arthroscopic surgeries of the knee- a retrospective cohort study
  2. The Knee: Complications following anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction in the English NHS
  3. Knee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy: Inpatient admission following anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction is associated with higher postoperative complications.
  4. Arthroscopy, Sports Medicine, and Rehabilitation: Operative Time Less Than 1.5 Hours, Male Sex, Dependent Functional Status, Presence of Dyspnea, and Reoperations Within 30 days Are Independent Risk Factors for Readmission After ACLR
  5. Rooks DS, Huang J, Bierbaum BE, Bolus SA, Rubano J, Con-nolly CE, Alpert S, Iversen MD, Katz JN (2006) Effect of pre-operative exercise on measures of functional status in men and women undergoing total hip and knee arthroplasty. Arthritis Rheum 55:700–708
Patient Reported Outcomes (PROMS) Survey to track patient experience and functional improvement after surgery.
International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) Reference Range
Minimal Clinically Important Difference (MCID)
is a patient-centered concept, defining the smallest amount of an outcome change that is meaningful to patients.
Substantial Clinical Benefit (SCB)
Change in the score that signifies a substantial or optimal improvement.
